And the Winner is……….

US!!

We did it!!  We found our travel trailer and could not be happier with our purchase.  It all started when we drove to Texas to find our new RV…..

Truck and trailer

Back in May, we were talking to three dealers in the Pacific Northwest: Clear Creek RV Center, Blade RV, and Dennis Dillon RV.  Blade RV and Dennis Dillon were eager to earn our business.  We chose not to go with Blade because ordering from the factory was the only option and we didn’t want to cut into our summer plans waiting for our RV to arrive.  At Dennis Dillon RV, the trailer they had in stock did not have the right color scheme inside, so we marked them off.  But my biggest disappointment was Clear Creek RV Center in Silverdale, Washington.  They had the exact unit we wanted and in stock.  But after days of going back and forth on the price, Clear Creek would not negotiate with us.  The salesman kept trying to get us to visit the dealership to discuss price.  They even told us that we could only buy from them because if we ever needed to get warranty work done, they said, you HAVE to take it back to the dealership you purchase from.  Which I know is a big, fat lie.  People all over the country buy RVs from dealerships nationwide.  So they lost out.  And the unit is still on their lot.

After more searching, we found our Open Range LT305BHS at McClain’s RV in Rockwall, Texas.  I called up and it was so refreshing talking with our saleswoman, Julie.  She was responsive.  She answered all my questions.  And, I was happy with the price.  Plus, even after they learned that we couldn’t pick up the unit until late June, the dealership kept our RV reserved for us for over a month until we could sign the papers and take delivery.  It was a great buying experience and I highly recommend Julie and McClain’s RV.

But why drive to Texas to get your RV?  For us it was a no brainer.  First, the price was right.  Second, my husband and I are originally from Texas and this gives us a great excuse to drive down and spend the summer seeing our family.

Life is an adventure.  We had planned to vacation around Washington, Oregon, and Idaho this summer.  But instead we are on a six week road trip touring Texas.  We packed up a 4’x6’ U-Haul trailer with all the things from our old travel trailer plus the usual clothes and what not and headed down in June.  McClain’s RV let us spend the day unloading our U-Haul and packing up our home for the summer.  And into the sunset we drove as happy campers.  🙂

Next time I will share our experiences RVing in Texas.  Thanks for reading and let me know how you are enjoying the road this summer below with a comment.

  1. Congratulations! I hope you love your Open Range as much as we love ours. We have the 5th wheel version of the 305BHS and absolutely LOVE it! We’ve been full timing in it for over a year now, and haven’t regretted the decision of lifestyle OR camper one bit.

  2. Congratulations! We enjoyed our trip out to the Northwest (with help from you!) and I hope you enjoy traveling around Texas. Hope the A/C works good for you because it is HOT!

    • Thank you so much! I am glad your trip to the Northwest was fun. So happy to help. You’re right about Texas…I have forgotten how hot it is. 😉

  3. Congratulations. Looks like a really nice unit. We almost bought an Open Range and knowing what I know now, we should’ve gone with it. I look forward to your upcoming posts on Texas as our plan is to spend several months this winter meandering around the state 🙂

    • Hi Ingrid – Thank you. We are really happy. We are visiting Tyler, Granbury, DFW area and San Antonio on this trip. Trying to spend time with as much family as possible.

  4. Looks great, congrats on your new rolling home I hope like most they it will be everything you want it to be. Hope your trip out west is great. Good luck and happy camping

  5. Such a great feeling to find “the one” – here’s to many great trips and living well in your rolling condo!

  6. Congratulations on the purchase of your new rig. We’re from Rockwall and know McClain’s RV. We’ve been full-timing since 2011 and love it. We’re currently Gate attendants at Lake Lavon-Lavonia park. but will return to the road soon. Happy travels to you and your family.

    • Hi Denise – thank you! We are starting our trip back to Washington next Monday. I can’t believe how fast these trips go. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy travels to you as well! 🙂

  7. Looking forward to reading more about your adventures! We are full-timers as of August, having bought a new 2014 Thor Tuscany 45LT motor coach in July. You aren’t supposed to go full-time because so many repairs are needed the first 6-12 months, but we did it anyway! And we have indeed had trouble, and trouble getting repairs done. We keep a spreadsheet with all the issues to keep track of them! Two service centers have told us “Nobody wants to work on these things.” And they put their buying customers first. But we finally had our dealer in FL leverage their pull with a dealer in Vegas (we are ex-Massachusetts) and Camping World in Henderson, NV finally addressed most of our issues. You just have to keep at it.

    • Congrats on your new RV and new lifestyle! One day our goal is to full-time as well. I understand your dilemma having a dealership shy away from doing repairs for a non-buying customer. We ran into the same situation on our new Open Range since we bought it in Texas. Fortunately, we were able to find a dealership who welcomed us. 🙂 Have FUN and enjoy writing about your adventures on your blog.

  8. Erin Dailey says:

Did you have any problems with your Open Range? Is it well made?

    • Hi Erin – I can’t say enough good things about our Open Range. I feel it is well made and we have been so happy with our decision. Thanks for stopping by my blog. 🙂
