Next Trip – La Push, Washington

I am excited about our final trip of the summer to La Push, WA.  This is our third time back and it is one of our favorite places to visit in Washington.  This year we are staying for ten nights at Quileute Oceanside Resort.

La Push is a great family destination.  We always go in August for better chances of warm weather.  We have always stayed at Quileute Oceanside Resort and love the proximity to the beach.  The resort has two sides for RV sites.  The older larger side and the newer side.  We prefer the newer section.  Tent camping is also allowed on the beach, but I don’t know if you have to have a permit, but I have seen tents peppered on the beach among the drift wood.

The beaches around La Push are beautiful.  Directly by La Push is First, Second, and Third Beach.  First Beach is adjacent to the resort.  Check out the beach webcam here.  Second and Third beaches are a short hike Hole in the Wallthrough the forest and offer more amazing views.  My personal favorite beach is a drive over to Rialto Beach.  I have seen the best tide pools here at Hole in the Wall.

To help you plan your stay, here are a few suggestions:

1.  Plan to bring warm clothes!  I know this sounds crazy, but the Pacific Ocean is a natural air conditioner and it gets chilly once the sun goes down and in the mornings until the marine layer moves out.  I always bring warm hats, fleeces, rain jackets, and pants for the evenings with the kids.  Hiking shoes, flip flops and water shoes are packed as well.

2.  Please purchase a fire permit to roast those s’mores on the beach.  If I remember correctly, the permits are $5.

3. Wi-Fi was only good around the office/check in building.

4.  Gravel sites in the RV park.  When bringing gear for the kids here, I leave their scooters at home and only bring their bikes on this trip.  Since we have boys, I include football and baseball gear.  Kites and sand toys are a must.

5.  As a word of caution, please don’t play in or around the drift wood floating in the water.  Despite the wood floating, it is very heavy and can injure you.
